Barcelona interested in Jason Sancho loan swoop as Manchester United struggle to find buyer - Paper Round - Eurosport (2024)

Barcelona want Sancho on loan

Manchester United are struggling to find a buyer for Jadon Sancho as they want £50 million for the player, and the Mirror reports on one potential alternative.

Barcelona are hamstrung by their own financial problems, but a loan for the 24-year-old could be affordable.

The paper writes: “Barcelona's interest in landing Jadon Sancho on loan is growing with Manchester United resigned to being unable to sell him.

“Sancho is free to leave Old Trafford this summer having fallen out with Erik ten Hag last September. The Englishman spent the second half of last season on loan at Borussia Dortmund, helping them to reach the Champions League final.

“But he will not be brought back into the reckoning at United, with Ten Hag still demanding an apology that Sancho will not give. As a result, the Red Devils are keen to move him on in this summer's window.

“That is proving difficult though, with United's £50 million asking price scaring off potential suitors. With that in mind, they are now ready to accept a loan deal for the 24-year-old.

“That U-turn has attracted Barcelona's interest, with the La Liga giants keen to sign a winger this summer. But the club's financial troubles mean that they have to stick to a tight budget, with concerns that they may not actually be able to register anyone.”

Forest want Antonio return

The Sun reports that Nottingham Forest are just one side who are keen on West Ham forward Michail Antonio.

The veteran could be surplus to requirements under Julen Lopetegui, and German side RB Leipzig are also interested.

The Sun writes: “Nottingham Forest are lining up a sensational swoop for their former striker Michail Antonio.

“The 34-year-old is expected to leave West Ham this summer as part of a massive clear-out under new manager Julen Lopetegui.

“And the Jamaican hitman - who has scored 67 goals in 254 games for the Hammers - is believed to be deemed surplus to requirements.

“A number of clubs, including two in America, are monitoring developments.

“Antonio is also attracting interest in Germany with RB Leipzig heading a queue of clubs keen on securing his services.”

Earps set for PSG switch

Paris Saint-Germain are closing in on Manchester United goalkeeper Mary Earps.

The 31-year-old is close to the end of her contract and can soon move on a free transfer.

The Daily Mail reports: “England goalkeeper Mary Earps has decided to leave Manchester United and is on the verge of signing for Paris Saint-Germain.

“Earps, who joined United in 2019, is out of contract and will be able to sign for the French club on a free transfer after rejecting the offer of a new deal with the Red Devils.

“The 31-year-old won the FIFA Best goalkeeper award for a second year running in January and finished fifth in last year’s Ballon d’Or - the highest ever ranking for a non-outfield player.

“Mail Sport understands United believe they made a strong offer to keep Earps, but the goalkeeper has decided to take up a new challenge abroad.”

Brighton look again at Dewsbury-Hall

The Telegraph believes that Leicester City midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is once again attracting the attention of Brighton.

New manager Fabian Hurzeler is keen to recruit for the upcoming new season, and the 25-year-old is a longstanding target.

The paper claims: “Brighton are ready to reignite a move for Leicester City midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall this summer to bolster Fabian Hurzeler’s squad for the new season.

“Dewsbury-Hall was subject of an approach in January but there was no agreement over a move, with the 25-year-old staying at the King Power Stadium and playing a key role in winning the Championship.

“But the interest in him has remained into the summer window and it is understood Brighton are prepared to step up their interest with a further move for the player who was valued at around £30 million last season.

“Last season, under Roberto De Zerbi, Brighton had Billy Gilmour and Pascal Gross, with youngster Carlos Baleba and Facundo Buonanotte also used. Gross has been linked with a move to Germany but Dewsbury-Hall would be expected to compete for a first-team place regardless.”
