(My attempt at) A general guide for advice-seekers on SBGD (and SBCH) (2024)

No, there is no TL;DR
This guide is mostly inspired by this post by @ChespinFrosty and is meant to be an expanded version of it. A fair chunk of the knowledge is from @DylanTheWin314. This guide is meant to give as much help as possible to as many people looking for advice as possible, and I'll try my best to answer the most common questions. If you have any suggestions or critiques then please lmk and I'll change the list accordingly, they’re very welcome.

To clear out the incoming jokes ITT: “”’How do I become really frricken richh??!!\’’’’”’”’”’”’
-brick red dye @RilGames will gladly help you with that (50m/h at theoretical highest magic find)
-rift @RiftALTerBloodfiend will be ECSTATIC to talk about it

Now, back to the regularly scheduled programming.

Outro

-How should I/what should I do to progress/get better?

  • You should, and in no necessary order:
    • Use Golden head (ghead) when playing dungeons floor 6 (f6) and above, Tarantula helmet (tara helm) outside of dungeons
    • Use Maxor boots unless you’re running something specific
    • Get good equipment and gear
    • Have good upgrades and enchants on your gear
    • Have decent Magical Power (mp)
    • Have done your fairy souls
    • Have maxed out the Rift Dimension (rift) (@RiftALTerBloodfiend)
    • Have decent slayer levels
    • Have a useful pet that’s relevant to what you’re doing
    • Have a good Secrets Per Run Average (s/r)
    • Have unlocked as many minion slots as you can (this can be done passively)
    • Have maxed out as many collections as possible, especially redstone. (this can be done passively)
    • Have unlocked all community centre upgrades
    • Have an established Money Making Method (mmm), which will often be one of these:
      • Mining, which often requires at least a somewhat expensive setup and Heart of The Mountain (hotm) level 7
      • Farming, which is easier to get into than mining but gives a lotless money
      • Doing Dungeons, whose requirements usually encompass everything in this guide
      • The aforementioned rift, which should be maxed out by default anyways
    • (Generally) Have Enchanting skill level 60

-What mmm should I do for x stage of the game?

  • This obviously not a comprehensive list, but just some of the ones I can think of. If there’s any others you’d like to recommend, please tell me in the comments
  • Early game:
    • Farming (3-7m/h)
    • Ice walkers (10m/h)
    • Zealots (5-10m/h) (RNG dependent)
    • Rift (10-15m/h)
  • Mid game:
    • Farming (6-12m/h)
    • Ice walkers (10m/h)
    • Zealots (5-15m/h) (RNG dependent)
    • Rift (10-15m/h)
    • Yog grinding (0-30m/h) (Very RNG dependent) (May be patched)
    • Mining (30m/h+) (Expensive to get into)
    • Dungeons (Very RNG dependent) (Expensive to reach a point where it’s very profitable)
    • Craft flipping (Money varies wildly) (Prioritises pure cash over any form of progression)

-Should I switch to X class?

  • This is somewhat reliant on the floor you plan on doing but I’ll assume you’re Floor 7 (f7)
  • If switching to mage, you:
    • Probably should be able to afford a Hyperion (hype), or AT DIRT BARE MINIMUM, a Spirit Sceptre (ss)
    • If you don’t, don’t expect to get into good parties
  • If switching to berserker (bers), you:
    • Should get Felthorn Reaper (felthorn), a Bouquet of Lies (bol), or a Giant’s Sword (gs)
  • If switching to archer (arch), you:
    • Don’t because we don’t need another sa juju non
    • But if you ABSOLUTELY have to, you should get a juju, or if you can afford it, a Terminator (term)

Non-specific, general tips:

  • Get mods (dont get ratted) for skyblock. A client is recommended. I use skyclient but badlion is good too.
    • Some mods that I really really really recommend you get are:
      • NEU (QOL)
      • SkyBlockAddons (SBA) (QOL)
      • SkyBlockPersonalised (SBP) (QOL)
      • SkyHanni (SH) (QOL)
      • BazaarNotifier (BN) (QOL specifically for Bazaar flipping)
      • FurfSkyReborn (FSR) (Texture pack) (Actually just any skyblock-specific texture pack at all)
      • DungeonsGuide (DG) (Literally essential for dungeons)
    • I really really really recommend you take the time to look at what these mods have to offer. Please. It’s worth it.
  • ‘Youtube and wiki is your best friend’ - some unknown guy
  • Get a good skill average or we WILL judge you. And silently.
  • Derpy mayor is coming soon. He gives 50% extra skill exp, so take the time to level up skills you normally wouldn’t, like Alchemy (which is actually really useful and you make most of your money back anyway) and Foraging (ew)

Now for more elaboration on the progression checklist,

Progression:

  • Golden head gives 2x stats while in dungeons, and so it outclasses basically every other helmet.
  • For equipment:
    • Gauntlet of contagion (GoC)
    • Black belt, but adaptive belt will do
    • Shadow Assassin (sa) cloak (?) (correct me if I’m wrong)
    • Also, this is just a comment, but it’s actually crazy that sa cp is an accepted and common acronym in skyblock
    • Balloon Snake/ Bone necklace in dungeons, Rift necklace outside
  • For enchants, reforges, etc, you:
    • MUST have all enchants from the enchanting table on it, unless you use One For All (ofa). AND DO NOT USE OFA UNLESS YOU USE A GS
    • MUST upgrade your gear with their respective fragments (fragging) if said gear is fraggable
    • MUST have 5 dungeonisation stars (stars) on all combat gear
    • MUST have all 10 Hot Potato Books (hpbs) applied
    • MUST have all 5 fuming potato books (fpbs) applied if it’s worth the expense
    • Generally have Ancient reforge on combat armour (use necrotic on wither goggles, and you may use renowned on heads)
    • Withered on swords (Fabled is optional at times), Precise on shortbows. Spiritual on shortbows if you can’t aim. But you should be good at aiming anyway
    • Generally have Ultimate Wise (Ult wise) 5 on items that use mana
    • Soul eater is absolutely necessary on jujus and terms
    • Generally have Legion on combat armour. If you’re poor, last stand will (sometimes) do
    • IDK much about reforges for mining but usually they aren’t too important until hotm6/7. And, chances are, if you’re reading this, you aren’t hotm6/7. (Although I do believe you should have Auspicious on drills)
    • Rooted and mossy for farming equipment and armour respectively. If you’re poor, blooming and bustling will do
  • For more mp:
    • First unlock all accessory slots other than the ones from Jacobus. This means maxing out the redstone collection, finishing the redstone miner quest, and doing all the community centre upgrades
    • Get skyhelper bot through discord. Run /missing and it’ll show the best talismans to get by coins per mp
    • Be aware that mp is quite expensive to get, especially past 400/500 mp
    • Generally, 400 mp is a good benchmark (I think 50 or 60m worth of accessories). If you have a gs, go for at least 600. If you anything better than a gs (hype, etc) then 800 mp+ is required. If you have a term, a minimum of 1k is required
  • For fairy souls:
    • The NotEnoughUpdates (NEU) mod offers a fairy soul waypoints feature that makes finding fairy souls literally 10x faster
    • Some tricky souls may require a video to find. Check the current number of fairy souls (243 as of writing), and find a guide on youtube that has that number of fairy souls
    • Aspect of The End (AOTE) helps infinitely with this
    • Enderpearls will also be needed for some fairy souls
    • A lot of the miscellaneous fairy souls are obtained unconventionally, like through fishing, garden, and dungeons. Those are not quite necessary for most people and are usually obtained through chance
  • For maxing out the rift dimension:
    • A video guide will be infinitely helpful
    • The rift offers the best necklace outside of dungeons, the rift necklace
    • Maxing out the rift will take quite a bit of time, however it will be worth it
  • For getting decent slayer levels:
    • Revenant Horror (rev) slayer level 6, Tarantula Broodfather (tara) slayer level 6, and Sven Packmaster (sven) slayer level 6 are baseline
    • (Colloquially, slayers are shown in this order: u/v/w/x/y/z, where u = rev level, v = tara level, w = sven level, x = Voidgloom Seraph (eman) level, y = Inferno Demonlord (blaze) level, and z = Riftstalket Bloodfiend (vamp) level. So in this case, 6/6/6)
    • (We exclude any unnecessary slayers at the end, and for in-between slayers that are unnecessary we put a 0, e.g. 5/0/5)
    • Wow, that was a lot of brackets and slashes, did you get all that?
    • 7/6/6/3 is late-early game
    • You really should strive for 7/6/6/5 to unlock juju but it’s not too necessary if you’re not going arch/bers ig
  • For getting relevant pets (pun not intended):
    • Leg Spirit pet is generally good all-around for dungeons. Its last stat is the most crucial one
    • Epic Yeti or Leg Blue Whale for tank and healer, but is generally good for survivability
    • Sheep pet for mage
    • Don’t use tiger pet for dungeons(?) (correct me if im wrong)
    • Lion/Wither skeleton/Giraffe(?) for bers
  • For s/r:
    • They are a good indicator of someone’s skill in dungeons, and so you’ll sometimes find difficulty getting into good parties with a bad s/r
    • 6 s/r is BASELINE
    • 8 s/r is okay
    • You really should be around 10 s/r
  • For minion slots:
    • Upgrade a minion manually up to around Tier 4 (colloqiually, tx, where x is the tier, e.g. t4) or t5
    • After that, just place them down, put in some minion upgrades and use the materials they generate themselves to upgrade them
    • DO NOT BOTHER WITH THE SLAYER MINIONS (rev, tara, etc.). THEY ARE RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE (120m+) AND DO NOT MAKE THE SPECIFIC MATERIALS NEEDED TO UPGRADE THEMSELVES
  • For collections:
    • Use the aforementioned minions to unlock these collections simultaneously
  • For mmm’s:
    • Farming:
      • Get garden to level 10:
        • Do this through unlocking milestones of different crops
      • Make a superfarm:
        • GroveManDan on youtube makes great superfarm tutorials, I use the 4.0 version but you can use any that you want (but usually, the more recent, the better)
        • Takes around 5 or so hours
      • Get farming 40:
        • Unlocks fermento armour, the best farming armour
      • Get fermento armour (duh)
      • Unlock and do visitors during all of this
        • Use the copper for farming equipment (lotus equipment, not farming tools and armour) and composter upgrades
      • THE COMPOSTER IS FREE MONEY!!!!
      • The farming progression guide by Yadi on youtube is pretty helpful, it’s 40 minutes long but it’s very recommended
  • Mining:
    • Please note that it takes quite a bit of money and a lot of time just to get into, but is very reliable and makes good money in the end
    • Get Hotm7
      • Buy Pickonimbus 2000’s and complete your 4 daily commissions until hotm7 (takes around 2-3 months)
    • Get 4 million Mithril powder and 4 million Gemstone Powder (4m/4m)
    • Then you can actually get into gemstone mining, watch (recent) youtube videos on mining and follow them
  • Dungeons:
    • Do f7 frag runs or f7/ master mode (mm) s+ runs
    • The process to get to this stage is pretty difficult and complicated and I will not cover it fully in this guide. But you MUST note that it will quite expensive and chances are, if you need this guide, you aren’t getting to that stage any time soon
    • Use a video guide on youtube to help you

Now that you’ve gotten to the end of this (unnecessarily long) (and bad) guide, I think the biggest tip I can give to most people is that DUNGEONS ARE NOT EVERYTHING!!!! DUNGEONS WILL ONLY TAKE YOU SO FAR!!! Sure, it’s fun. I’d say it’s the most fun aspect of skyblock. But most people get into a trap of only doing dungeons and nothing else, and so all their other stats become stunted, and their dungeon progress gets partially softlocked. SO many people get stuck in this phase, and it’s super annoying to see.

If you fail more than 4 or 5 points in the first part of the guide, you should probably take a break from dungeons because you are probably in the same trap I used to be in a couple years ago.

I can’t believe I spent so much time on this guide but now I can just link this instead of writing an essay lol

Also, this guide is geared mainly towards early game juju non cata 18 dungeon rushers with 117 mp, 10 minion slots, a redstone collection barely even unlocked, 80m nw where 90% of it is in ¾ almost clean sa with zkcp and a 3 star ss with ult wise 3 and not even half of the enchants on the ench table. This is not by intention but by inadvertent coincidence as most people who need progression help are as such.
