It goes great served as an appetizer in the form of a beautiful salsa for chips or used to load up your tacos, over grilled fish and chicken.

Pineapple Salsa with Tomatoes

The combination of pineapple salsa with tomatoes is a delicious way to enjoy the flavor of summer and tropical flavors. Think of it like Pico de Gallo with bits of juicy sweet pineapple mixed in.

You can make pineapple salsa in a couple of minutes, just give the ingredients a good chop, toss to combine, and you’re in business. Good thing it tastes even better the next day because this recipe yields a lot!

What is Pineapple Salsa Made of?

Getting hungry? Here’s everything you’ll need to make a batch of pineapple salsa:

  • fresh pineapple:fresh works best! If needed, use pre-sliced pineapple from the grocery to save time. In a pinch, use frozen. I don’t recommend using canned.
  • tomatoes:Roma, vine, or cherry tomatoes- whatever is fresh and abundant where you are!
  • red onion:adds a sweet and mild kick. If your family doesn’t like onions, you can omit them; the salsa will still taste delicious.
  • jalapeño:gives the salsa a little spice.
  • garlic:nothing like fresh garlic in fresh salsa.
  • lime:just a squeeze to brighten the flavors.
  • cilantro:what’s homemade salsa without fresh cilantro?
  • salt:brings out the sweetness in the pineapple and fresh tomato.

How to Make Pineapple Salsa

While regular salsa is always great, this one is sure to become a favorite. Sweet, juicy pineapple mixed with tomatoes and just a tiny bit of spice from chili powder – it’s the best of both worlds! Here’s how to make it happen:

  1. Chop Away
    Dice the pineapple, tomatoes, onions, peppers, and cilantro. Add the ingredients to a large bowl.
  2. Add a Squeeze of Lime
    To the tomatoes and pineapple, add a squeeze of fresh lime juice, a sprinkle of chili powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Toss to Combine
    Toss the ingredients to combine, then grab your tortilla chips and serve!

How to Make Pineapple Salsa More Flavorful

Pineapple salsa has plenty of flavors from the tangy lime juice, fresh cilantro, and sweet pineapple. However, if you like your salsas on the spicy side, don’t leave out the jalapeño, and make sure to toss in a few of the seeds. The seeds add a lot of heat.

Can You Freeze Pineapple Salsa?

Ingredients

  • 3 Roma tomatoes
  • 1 cup diced pineapple
  • ¼ red onion, diced
  • ¼ jalapeno, seeded and finely chopped
  • ¼ cup fresh chopped cilantro
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • ½ lime, juiced
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • In a large bowl combine the pineapple, tomatoes, onion, jalapeno, cilantro and garlic. Add the lime juice and salt and stir to combine. Serve right away or refrigerate until ready to use.

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

    How much pineapple do you use in the recipe – it is not in the ingredients. Is it 1/4 of a jalapeno and 1/4 of a red onion or is some measurement missing?
